Aurum Pyrrhon can be tricky, as some players might not realize that youre supposed to attack the poles that hes chained to before attacking him directly, during which you wont be able to see any of his attacks due to their placement. Whats more, some of his attacks hit hard and are tricky to avoid in time 8212 especially his ring of fire. The battle against Pits body in chapter 18 is an absolute nightmare. Since you no longer have ranged weapons, you are forced to use melee attacks to defeat him, and getting up to him is a difficult task in itself. However, he does have ranged attacks that not only hit hard, but are rather difficult to dodge. Just getting close enough to attack is a massive challenge, but being able to land one is also a serious challenge, as he is very quick and swift, requiring some very tricky maneuvering. The worst part is though, on higher difficulties, if youre not careful, he can intercept your attacks . Its almost like fighting yourself. Palutena in Chapter 20, mainly because youre supposed to attack the Chaos Kin, not her. In the beginning of the fight, the Chaos Kin hovers above in a very subtle purple smoke, and when revealed it will hover around Palutena or even wrap itself around her. Weapons like clubs or cannons wont be very effective given their power and broad range, making it very easy to hit or even kill Palutena by accident. Of course, this results in a Game Over. Amazon Pandora is extremely agile, making her difficult to pin with ranged shots, and will deal out powerful counterattacks if you try and close in for melee, and needs to be defeated three times before she will go down permanently. She also spams Pandoras boxes, which are incredibly easy to open by accident and release a stream of fairly powerful, difficult to dodge balls of energy. Though, on the plus side, they also often provide loot once the attack is over. The Heart of Hades, see That One Attack above. Its hard to pay attention to Pits funny dialogue, calling it a cute little monster. when the cardiovascular nightmare is busy trampling the player under several tons of berserk rage. That One Level. Quite a few actually (keep in mind that the games adjustable difficulty means you can avert this trope entirely). Chapter 13 feels like one long marathon when it isnt. The air battle portion isnt difficult (though the doors can be damaging if you dont notice the part you need to shoot) and neither is the boss at the end, but what makes it difficult is the fact that this level introduces some powerful enemies that can easily kill you if youre not careful. Plus, there are many holograms to distract you, and a tricky mirror room where if you move too quickly, youll fall off the edge and lose a lot of health. Finally midway through the chapter, youre fighting Dark Pit, who makes destroying the generator much harder given that hell be aiming at you instead of the generator, even if you decide to hide behind it hoping hell shoot the arrow at it. Chapter 17 for being an Escort Mission in a sense. If you lose all four Centurions carrying you toward Prryon, you get a game over and given that youre fighting on a small platform, barely having room to dodge enemies that are coming at you and that the Centurions die easily. youll be screaming at higher levels. Chapter 18 when you get to play as Magnus. On lower levels, its fun, but when you rack up the difficulty level, the level suddenly becomes hell, as Magnus lack of a ranged attack is the difference between a life and death situation. Whats more, you cant use any powers, hes slower than Pit given the weapon he uses makes it harder for him to dodge, the modifiers are nulled till you get Pits body back, and there are hardly any healing items in the level. And of course, if you try to go for the Souflee near the end, you might miss the hot spring before the boss battle (although you do get a Drink of the Gods). Then the icing on the cake is the fight against Pits body. Chapter 19 is the Marathon Level where there are at least two checkpoints when climbing up the tower. It features some non-standard gameplay, including a section where you have to dash past a gust of wind three times on a catwalk. Fall and its back to the start of the section. The catwalk isnt very narrow, which only makes it more infuriating until you get the hang of it. Likely worse for those using buttonsd-pad to move instead of analog (see Scrappy Mechanic ). The sheer length of the level is even lampshaded by Pit, who constantly asks Are We There Yet Chapter 21 when you chase down the Chaos Kin, its very difficult to stay alive during the air portion on higher levels given all the enemies the Chaos Kin throws at you. Plus, the air battle lasts longer than your average five minutes as lampshaded by Viridi when she keeps warning Pit that time is almost up. And just when you thought the hard part was done in the air, you have to fight 13 sets of monsters that are from all the main armies in the game. and not only does the Chaos Kin choose the hardest monsters, he gives many of them different AI to make them even harder . Luckily, Dark Pit joins you around the ninth wave to help out, but at that point, you might have dropped a difficulty level. The Chaos Kin is hard to catch on foot, and unless you trap it, youll likely be hitting Dark Pit instead of your intended target. And whats worse He hits back. Also, two waves feature the dreaded One-Hit Kill Ornes, which basically means Game Over if youre careless with your movement. And to put a cherry on it, theres not one but TWO ways to fail the level instantly: not doing enough damage to the target in the final portion of the air battle. which is INCREDIBLY easy to fail if youre stuck with a weapon that lacks non-charged shot based ranged attacks, especially clubs. Chapter 24. It may be fun on lower intensities, but on high intensities like 9.0, its just as bad as Chapter 18. This chapter has Pit doing the 3 trials Dyntos has set up for him. It involves Pit fighting the hardest enemies at this point in the game, with Advanced AI. You fight 3 bosses in the first section of the level(The Phoenix, The Kraken and Cragalanche). Then you fight Gaol and Magnus AT THE SAME TIME, and directly afterwards you have to fight fake Palutena who has the same powers as Palutena did in chapter 20, but is much more annoying and has some new attacks. And as if that wasnt enough, right after that you then have to fight the Great Sacred Treasure, which has one attack that even if you have a power that makes you invincible, will one hit KO you. They Wasted a Perfectly Good Character. Viridi. Much of the criticism against her is due to the fact that she is never fought as a boss in the game and thus never receives any punishment for her crimes. And though she does eventually do a HeelFace Turn and assists Pit in later chapters, it does little to ease the disappointment fans feel about her not receiving her comeuppance. Not only that, but a fight against the goddess of nature would have been interesting. This also applies to Super Smash Bros. as well, as all Viridi gets in the way of playability is a downloadable Mii Costume. Ugly Cute. Hadess Heart. Uncanny Valley. Palutena looks slightly off in her official art. This can actually be used to creepy effect, such as on the Kid Icarus subreddit . The North American trailer for the game has incredibly impressive CGI, but for some reason, Pits face seems just off, especially up close 9674 in the brief shot of his plasticine visage as he flies toward the camera. Thankfully, the animators wisely keep his face either in the distance or onscreen for only a short period of time. Visual Effects of Awesome. For a 3DS game, it looks pretty good. Chapter 5 uses a lot of visual tricks in the flight sequence. Its quite a sight to see in 3D. Chapter 8. The Galactic Sea is gorgeous. Chapter 10s air battle is largely based in a volcano. and the lava effects are definitely visually stunning. Which is also lampshaded by Pit Of the side materials, special mentions go out to Medusas Revenge by Studio 4C and the commercial by The Mill. What Do You Mean, It Wasnt Made on Drugs. The entirety of Chapter 5. Justified seeing as Pandora is essentially the Goddess of Mind Screw. Chapter 21 is even crazier. Also justified considering its based in the Chaos Vortex. The Woobie. Pit bounces between this and the Chew Toy for the majority of Uprising. By Chapter 18. though, youll want to give him a hug. It gets worse in Chapter 21. Woolseyism. Sakurai himself told the localization team to take as many liberties as needed, as the Japanese script (which Sakurai wrote himself) relied heavily on Japanese culture references. The character who benefited the most from this was Hades his Japanese characterization is far less hammy and more of a straightforward villain. Pyrrhon . known in Japan as Lars, the Sun God (, Taiy-shin rzu), is a major character in Kid Icarus: Uprising . He is the (possible) sun god, and assists Pit in fighting off an alien invasion. He appears during the Aurum arc of the main story ( Mysterious Invaders . The Aurum Hive . and The Aurum Brain ) as an ally in the former two and a brainwashed antagonist in the latter. His primary method of offense is his ability to manipulate fire and use it to attack enemies and his ability to fly fast. He is depicted as a strong head superhero-like character with a large ego and surprising intelligence, although the latter two traits do conflict with each other sometimes when Pyrrhon talks. Characteristics Appearance Pyrrhon looks like a comic book superhero with a muscular build and a body engulfed in flames including his hair. He also has bright red skin covered with tattoo-like, glowing yellow lines. He stands around 230 cm (76) tall 1. if his rising flaming hair is excluded. Personality At first glance, Pyrrhon seems to be an affable and boisterous character. The sun god is quite eccentric, acting as if he is a superhero from a comic book. As a result, he is seen as a bit of an oddball by the other gods and no one seems to take him seriously. Pyrrhon is very egotistical, possibly the most narcissistic character in the game. He usually addresses himself in third-person and refers to the other deities as godlings. Despite his odd quirks, Pyrrhon is very brave, always rushing into danger head-on. However, this also causes him to act reckless as shown in Chapter 16. where he inadvertently makes the Aurum Generator stronger with his firepower. However, Chapter 17. reveals that his eccentric personality is merely a facade that masks a cruel and selfish egomaniac who will stop at nothing to achieve his ambitions. Pyrrhon is motivated solely by his ego, feeling that he is superior to all gods. He seeks to control the Aurum and become the strongest god in existence. Despite his odd quirks, Pyrrhon is a cunning and manipulative being, as he managed to trick Pit and the other deities to reach his goal of controlling the Aurum Brain in his attempt to become a Level Infinity Epic Super God Plus and get the status he so richly desired. He also has immense knowledge of the Aurum, having studied them intensely. However, despite his intelligence and cunning, his mind appeared to be weak enough for the Aurum Brain to overwhelm him and turn him evil. As the self-proclaimed Sun God, Pyrrhon holds power over fire and is shown to be very adept in its use. Pyrrhons main form of offense comes in the form of tossing salvos of fireballs at his opponents, or what he calls his Pyroblasters. His strongest attack comes in the form of his Pyro Cannon, a large column of fire he shoots from his hands. Pyrrhon is also capable of molding fire into whatever shape he desires such as waves of fire, a serpentine trail of flame he dubs the Pyro Snake, and mines that explode upon contact with enemies or after a few second delay. Pyrrhon is also capable of regulating his body temperature as shown at the end of Chapter 15. where he was able to safely carry Pit out of the Aurum Islands without fear of burning him. Pyrrhon is also capable of flight and teleportation. Upon merging with the Aurum Brain, Pyrrhons powers increase exponentially. Pyrrhons merge now gives him control over every unit in the Aurum fleet, from the mighty battleship to the tiny foot solider. He can even amplify their strength with his fire powers. Like the other gods, Pyrrhon is capable of communicating through telepathy and can even block telepathic commands of other gods, shown when he prevents Palutena from extracting Pit during Chapter 17. Like other deities, he can also project his astral form. Though whether he had this ability before merging with the Aurum Brain is unknown. In Kid Icarus: Uprising Concept art of Pyrrhon. Pyrrhon makes his first appearance in the flight section of Mysterious Invaders as an ally of Pit to help defeat the Aurum. He explains to the angel and the godlings about the Aurum, and how these extraterrestrial beings must be stopped before they devour the entire planet. Despite his helpful knowledge about the Aurum, none of the other characters take him seriously, likely due to his over-the-top eccentric personality. After Pit annihilates the Aurum Core. Pyrrhon saves the angel from the explosion caused by the Cores destruction. In the next chapter. Pyrrhon only makes an appearance at the end during the boss fight with the Aurum Generator. He attempts to help out Pit again by attacking the machine with his fire abilities but only makes the situation worse by overheating the Generator then flees. In the last chapter of the Aurum invasion. Pyrrhon joins Pit and the other gods in the final battle to get rid of the aliens once and for all. He leads the angel into the Aurum Brain Fortress where the Aurum Brain resides and tells him to shoot at it. As Pit opens fire at the Brain, Pyrrhon suddenly then merges with it by entering the core. This action causes a destructive explosion, but Pit quickly manages to escape in time. Pyrrhon then appears as a large astral projection in front of Pit, and reveals he has been using the angel the entire time to take control of the Aurum in order to become a Level Infinity Epic Super God. Plus and control the Aurum fleet to raise his rank as a deity. Pyrrhons control causes the Aurum troops to change color into a bright red and become even more powerful. However, the Aurum Brain corrupts him and takes control of him instead and uses his powers to destroy Pit by interfering Palutenas ability to extract Pit when the Power of Flight was running out. As Pit continues his assault on the Aurum, Pyrrhon again attempts to get rid of him again by firing a powerful blast of fire, but the angel is luckily protected by the Forces of Nature blocking the attack for him. Once finally Pit reaches the Aurum Brain again, he discovers that Pyrrhons mind has been completely consumed by the Aurum Brain itself, becoming Aurum Pyrrhon. which turns him into an emotionless and robot-like entity that can only speak in gibberish and binary. Pyrrhon then begins to viciously attack Pit and threatens to destroy the planet. After Pit defeats the brainwashed Pyrrhon, he returns to his senses and sends out a huge pillar of fire that launches the remaining Aurum back into space towards the other side of the galaxy, ending the Aurum threat once and for all however, Pyrrhons fate afterwards remains unknown. This action however was commented on by Viridi. with her saying, He finally does something useful. Idol Description The self-proclaimed Sun God who is investigating8212and entranced by8212the wondrous and alien Aurum. Pyrrons massive ego seems inversely proportional to his intelligence, making his boasts of divine lineage a bit hard to swallow. In Super Smash Bros. 4 Pyrrhon appears as one of the numerous collectable trophies in Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS . Trophy Description A savior from the annals of history A comic-book hero come to life on the big screen. No one can tell if Pyrrhon is serious when he introduces himself. A self-proclaimed sun god, his obsession with the Aurum must be part of Pyrrhon Creed Number 851: know the baddies Pyrrhon is likely inspired by Apollo or Helios. which were both Greek gods of the sun, although his name appears to be based on Pyrrho. a Greek philosopher. It might also come from the word pyro, which means fire. He may also be based upon King Pyrrhus. due to the fact that his apparent victory on the Aurum Brain only leads to his total defeat (first from being possessed by the Aurum, and ultimately brought down by Pit). There is much debate in-game about Pyrrhons godly status. Dialogue from both Palutena and Viridi indicates that neither are sure of whether he is a god or not due to his eccentric personality and thickheadedness, and his Idol refers to him as the self-proclaimed sun god. He is one of the few major characters who does not have a weapon bearing his namehowever, the Burning Palm may be inspired by him. A short and surprisingly powerful musical cue of twelve notes is heard whenever Pyrrhon first appears in Chapter 15. This is then extended to encompass most of the Chapter 17 air battle theme. According to Masahiro Sakurai. this is treated as Pyrrhons theme. 2 According to Viridi, Pit is the only person that Pyrrhon considers an equal. This may be due to the fact both he and Pit are often looked down by most gods. References
